Cells are the basic unit of life, and within their nuclei, we find the deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA, the molecule that carries the instructions controlling everything that happens in the cell and, ultimately, in the entire body.
In this activity, we will get hands-on and extract DNA from fruits using just a few household items, in a quick and simple process. We will also explore what happens next: DNA is sequenced to read the information that it contains, and through bioinformatic analysis, the obtained data helps the scientists better understand how life works.
